GDADW 2025 headlineThe GWADW workshop is quite unique in that the focus is solely on the enabling technology of gravitational-wave detectors. Its lineage goes back to annual Aspen winter meetings in the 1990s. After several years, it began occurring in other locations.  The conference name has varied over the years, starting with “Aspen Winter Conference on Gravitational Waves and Their Detection” and “Aspen Winter Conference on Gravitational Waves: Gravitational Wave Advanced Detectors Workshop.” The first time it was moved out of Aspen (and to a week in May as opposed to January) it was called “Aspen in Elba: Gravitational Wave Advanced Detector Workshop” (and this was followed by “Aspen in Florida” and “Aspen in Japan”). By 2010 the name was “Gravitational Wave Advanced Detector Workshop” and it has continued with this name to the present time.

Syd Meshkov was the principal organizer of these meetings, from their beginning until 2020.
